Variety reports that Matthew Vaughn has been selected to direct a live-action adaptation of the Marvel Comics character "Thor". Vaughn directed the sleeper hit “Layer Cake” and “Stardust” which opens to wide release today
Vaughn was originally attached to direct "X-Men 3", after Bryan Singer went on to direct “Superman Returns” , but was forced to drop out for personal reasons and Bret tRatner took the helm. Production is slated start this winter, implying a 2009 release but if Stardust makes a sizeable profit this weekend expect Vaughn’s director cred to soar and the movie to get fast tracked.
